Dr. Lightstone is a distinguished and influential Canadian mechanical engineer, educator, researcher, and academic administrator. In 2013 she became the first woman Department Chair in the history of the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University, with reappointment for a second five-year term in 2018. As Chair, she championed gender diversity and significantly increased the representation of women in Mechanical Engineering.
